Canon Character Information
Appearance: Rory is an everyday woman's woman. She has a natural, understated beauty. She has long dark hair, and can rock a pencil skirt or pajamas depending on the day. She has no tattoos (insert biker joke here), but she is coming into the game just about 3 month's pregnant.
History: here and here
Personality: Lorelei Leigh Gilmore was born on October 9th, 1984... of that, we can be sure. She carries on the Lorelei tradition that her Great-Gran started and her Mother continued, but she prefers to be called Rory.
Rory Gilmore is what some might call an old soul. She practically came out of the womb with a love of books, and growing up she read everything that she could get her hands on and then some. Rory is a certain person for the most part, and she decided early on in her life that she would be going to Harvard. It was as if the decision was written in the stars or something; Rory was so sure, so determined. Lorelei Gilmore had Rory when she was 16, so given that they are only 16 years apart in age, they have a unique relationship. An outsider, looking in at their relationship might not understand how Rory being the more mature one of the pair works for them, but it does. They are best friends first and mother and daughter second. Rory trusts her mother's judgment sometimes more than her own, but their life is not one that is based on wine and roses. Their life is real and flawed, and completely and totally them. They have had their fair share of disagreements over the years.... Rory, having an affair with her married ex-boyfriend Dean, and losing her virginity did not sit too well with Lorelei, or her dropping out of Yale because her boyfriend's father told her she didn't have what it takes to be a journalist, to their latest and greatest, Rory's desire to write her and Lorelei's story. Despite all of the bumps, mother and daughter somehow manage to come out of the other side stronger for it. Rory makes her won decisions in life, good, bad or indifferent; she owns them.
Rory inherited her mother's poor diet and her insane love for pop culture. Because of that, she drops pop culture references left and right. She is a sweet girl, warm, mindful of other people's feelings and reactions sometimes more than her own. She comes across as shy and timid at first, but she is not afraid anymore of saying her peace and standing up for what she believes in. This is seen when she takes over the Star's Hollow Gazette because she feels that it is wrong that it is closing in the first place. Rory could be considered a chatty Cathy, sometimes, well most times, giving out too much information. One could say that it was a nervous habit, but in Rory's case, she comes by it very naturally. Her speech follows a free flow train of thought type process. She feels no shame or embarrassment in what she says, however. Rory is a forgiving person unless you have wronged her in the past- She is very much a fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me a type of girl.
She keeps extensive journals that her mother jokes are weirdly specific. She’s a very organized person. She labels everything, makes pro/con lists, cross-references and does more research then she has to when whatever she’s doing calls for it. Punctuality is important. On time is late and early is on time. Rory is generally a rule follower, but even she had a period of rebellion. She stole a boat with Logan and it cost her Yale for a semester. She may not always agree with the authority imposed on her, but she does respect authority figures. Rory is easily traumatized by criticism, which is why when Mitchel Huntzburger told her she was a hack, she went out and stole a boat.
Rory is a grudge holder, of that there is no doubt, but she is one that has a forgiving nature. She has carefully travailed growing up a Lorelei Gilmore. Her father and her Grandparents have never been constants in her life. She has been mostly okay with that. She is used to both freezing out her Grandparents and Christopher if she feels that they have in some way wronged her mother. Despite being a grudge holder, she does give people second or third chances; her true people pleasing nature wins out.jewel of stars hollow.
Lorelei, her mother, is the most important person in Rory's life. No matter if they didn't always see eye to eye, if Lorelei needed her, she would be there. Rory inherits her stubbornness from both her mother and her Grandmother, and even if she doesn't agree with her mother's choices i.e., abandoning Max on the eve of their wedding, she will truly follow her lead and go to the ends of the earth to be with her. Rory has only had Lorelei for most of her formative years, and that was okay with her. When she turned 16, however, she was forced to have dinner with her Grandparents on Friday nights to pay for Chilton. Lorelei might have thought it was the end of the world, but Rory looked forward to Friday night dinners. She had a falling out with her mother about college and ended up seeking refuge with her grandparents. That ended when Rory realized that Emily was smothering her. Under normal circumstances, she adores her grandparents. Rory will do anything to give her mother anything within her power, which is why Rory went to them to get the tuition money for Yale so that Lorelei could buy the Dragonfly Inn. Rory's love of her family is at the core of who she is. There is nothing that she wouldn't do for her Mother or her Grandparents, especially Richard.
Rory graduated from Yale with a clear goal in her head about what she wanted her life to be. She was going to be a journalist, and follow in the footsteps of her idols Madeline Albright and Christianne Amanpour. That worked for Rory for awhile, but we see that the Gilmore Girls do not, for the most part, deal with personal loss well at all. Richard dying of a heart attack tilted Rory's world off its axis although she didn't realize it at the time. She published an article in the New Yorker, before Richard's passing, and it looked like all the doors in the world were opening up for her. That is what Rory wanted to believe. She had lost a crucial person to her, and that caused her to want to hang onto the past a bit too tightly. Rory made a series of directionless choices, starting with having a sexual relationship with her ex-boyfriend Logan Huntzburger, behind both her mother's and his fiance's backs. The length of their dalliance is never explicitly stated, but one could infer that it was a couple of years. Rory adopted a nomad-like way of life after Richard died, never really settling in one place for too long. Her sense of self and worth is skewed because she thinks that all she deserves is part of Logan's time, and some crappy job running the Stars Hollow Gazette. It is only after talking with Jess and getting into a huge fight with Lorelei over Rory's desire to write their story, does she get her head on straight and ends things with Logan after a final night with him.
Rory didn't know it at the time, but that night would cause the trajectory of her life to change forever once again. She decided to write her book in her Grandfather's study, a place that she feels at home. Rory reconciles with Lorelei in time to see her and Luke get married. She is 32 years old and pursuing her dream of writing their story Gilmore Girls. Jess is the one that told her that she was better than the person she was becoming once again. He has stood by her through everything just offering his silent support much in the same way that Luke has done for Lorelei. It is a remarkable thing that when Rory arrives in Medietas, she has stopped being a guiding force of Jess'life, but he instead has in a way become one for her, even if she doesn't realize it yet. Rory will embrace motherhood in much the same way Lorelei did, making sure that her child will grow up in an environment where you are loved, no matter if your life gets messed up.

What 4 items would you like your character to have with them on the island during their stay? This coffee maker, her apple Imac, her entire book collection, and her entire collection of movies.

First Person:
[Rory is not one to be overdramatic... much or freak out needlessly, that was more her mother's forte, but come floating islands? Stephen King couldn't make this stuff up.]
....I think that you could have found a better way to make me reevaluate my life choices. I mean come on.... you think that it would take floating islands and rainbow bridges to make me see that I need to buy underwear? Yes.... you heard me correctly underwear. I do not know where my underwear is.... there I said it. Are you happy now? Because I coulda been a contender.... I am sooo happy right now..... I'm 32 years old, no job, no boyfriend, no underwear, basically no life.... Oh did I mention I was pregnant? [She waves her hands around aimlessly]
Talk about the apple not falling far from the tree huh? Yep, that's me Lorelei Gilmore, pregnant, alone, directionless at 32.... News at 11.
[She pauses, looking at the camera]
I need coffee..... and tacos.... and ice cream don't forget the ice cream, and maybe Chinese.... and pizza.... oh and red vines.... and my mommy. I want that last one.
Third Person:
Rory sat down at the makeshift desk that she had created, her head in her hands. She felt lost and truly alone for the first time in a long time. Rory hadn't felt this directionless since the time Rory dropped out of Yale. She had told herself then, that she had a purpose and a reason for doing everything that she did back then, but then she realized after a lot of soul-searching and a swift kick in the backpack from Jess she had decided to get with the program and find Rory Gilmore again, because this directionless, underwearless, person she had become was so not who she was.
Rory Gilmore put the Star in Stars Hollow. She was their beacon, their hope, and she loved every single person in that town, even Kirk. She hadn't felt much like a beacon as of late. However, she had somehow lost her way yet again. She was currently calculating the probability that her Grandfather's death had affected her more than it should. Grief had caused her to make poor life choices, choices she would not have made if she had been whole and happy.
She laid a hand on her stomach, though, and found that she couldn't regret the choices that led her to this moment. She was very much her mother's child, so how could she regret something that she already loved. Logan, getting back with Logan or whatever the heck they did, might have been a mistake, but this little nugget inside of her would never be.
She might not have Lorelei or Luke or anyone she knew here with her, but as she sat at her desk, in her new home, she realized with clarity that she would never be alone because a part of home would always be with her. She reached down, and pulled a well-worn book out of the desk of the drawer, The Suspect, by Jess Mariano. Rory smiles as she turns the first page of a book she has read hundreds, maybe thousands of times, and no it was not a misprint. This was Jess from cover to cover, and it brought Rory a lot of peace throughout the years. Maybe, just maybe, Jess would save her again.
Finally, out of the 4 words, pick one: Chimes, lake, gravel, or sun? Lake
